Food Network Holiday Lineup

The Food Network has been churning out all the holiday programs you could dream of this season. If you haven’t been watching, you’re missing out on some amazing treats, talent, and as much drama as a holiday baking show can offer.  Here are a few of the specials Food Network is running this holiday season:

Holiday Gingerbread Showdown:

This season premiered November 25 at 9 pm est. The show consists of three bakers who try to create the “definitive gingerbread showpiece.” They are given a challenge in which they have to create something amazing with gingerbread, making sure the piece is 3 feet tall, 90 percent edible, with 70 percent of that being purely gingerbread. The bakers have only 10 hours to put these works of art together, but they’re able to bake and assemble prior to arriving at the competition.

Each episode, the bakers are also thrown a curveball challenge, as seems to be the case with most of these competition shows. In the end, one gingerbread master will walk away with the grand prize of $25,000. The network has even called this season an “over-the-top seasonal showdown unlike any other.”

The show is hosted by Marcela Valladolid. She is joined by judges Adam Young, Kerry Vincent, and Molly Yeh.

Valladolid herself has talked about how proud she is to be the first Latina to host a prime-time show on Food Network.

On Sunday, December 16th at 9 pm est, Holiday Gingerbread Showdown will crown the champion. If you’re curious, you can catch this one Sundays at 9 pm est.

Holiday Baking Championship:

In this show, nine bakers are featured, each being eliminated one at a time until a champion is crowned in the final episode. Each episode, the bakers are challenged to create treats that are inspired by different holiday themes, many of which work in some classic holiday flavors, such as pumpkin spice and cranberries. This year’s grand prize is $25,000.

“Holiday Baking Championship celebrates the delicious desserts, classic flavors and ingredients of the season that are sure to get viewers in the holiday spirit,” said  Bob Tuschman, General Manager and Senior Vice President Programming, Food Network. “Bakers will have their skills tested along with their ability to improvise on their family recipes to design the most scrumptious sweets and holiday treats.”

This season is hosted by Jesse Palmer, with judges Duff Goldman, Nancy Fuller and Lorraine Pascale by his side.

Holiday Baking Championship has arguably gotten the most attention this season. You’ve probably seen one of the 238 million TV ad impressions that Food Network has rolled out for this years bake off.

You can catch this one Mondays at 9 pm est.

Christmas Cookie Challenge:

This one has actually already wrapped, so I won’t spoil who walked away with the $10,000 this year. The episodes are available online through Food Network, though, so I suggest catching up!

The show ran from November 1 until November 26, which feels pretty early for a holiday baking competition. However, this show also incorporates some fall themes as well. Plus, it’s never too early for Christmas cookies.

The show is hosted by Eddie Jackson and judged by Ree Drummond, along with a rotating panel of other judges.

This one is arguably one of the most visually appealing shows on Food Network. The artistry is pretty incredible. There’s a lot that goes into that perfect cookie decoration that I’m sure most people never even think about.

I mean, how did that Santa cookie get that perfect glisten? And how did they make that Rudolph look strangely life-like. It’s all so interesting to watch.

What I love about this show is that, for the most part, nothing seems too haphazardly done. Some baking competitions relish in that sloppy, first half of the episode where the bakers desperately try to make a whole desert in 30 minutes. In one episode, contestants used cookie cutters from other holidays to create Christmas themed cookies, and things turned out pretty picture perfect.

I’ve been keeping up with all of this Food Network holiday fun. Have you?
