Food Network Gets Spooky

As Fall rolls in, Food Network is rolling out more episodes of their classic Halloween competitions.

“Halloween Baking Championship” and “Halloween Wars” have made their return to Food Network this season. The programs will also be joined by “… five sensational specials capturing the Halloween spirit for over 20 hours of thematic holiday programming.”

“Food Network kicks off the holiday season with the return of our Halloween programming lineup that features familiar faces and spine-tingling competitions that capture and exceed viewers’ imagination,” said Courtney White, General Manager and Executive Vice President, Programming, Food Network and HGTV.

Halloween Baking Championship returns tonight at 9. It stars judges Carla Hall, Lorraine Pascale, and Zac Young. The judges are joined by host John Henson (Talk Soup).

According to a press release, the show will “test the skills of eight talented bakers as they show off their creepiest, scariest skills over six episodes with bone-chilling challenges.” The winner will walk away with $25,000.

As for Halloween Wars host Jonathan Bennett will return this year. Teams will be judged by returning judges as well: award-winning cake decorator Shinmin Li, horror film special effects master Todd Tucker. The third seat on the judge’s panel will consist of different celebrities, as was the case in previous seasons. The network has announced movie director Mick Garris, Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things) will be among those judges.

On Sunday, September 30th at 8pm Road to Halloween Wars will premiere for fans to see what happens before the show premieres. After, at 9 pm, the season officially kicks off.

On the show, Food Network states “six teams each made up of an expert pumpkin carver, a cake artist, and a sugar master battle it out over five episodes to create Halloween-themed edible displays that are as scary as they are delicious.”

The winners will pocket $50,000.

Of the other Halloween specials Food Network is premiering, there is Haunted Gingerbread Showdown (premieres October 7 at 10 pm), Halloween Cake-Off (October 8 at 10 pm), and Trisha’s Halloween Spooktacular (October 15 at 8 pm).
